Makala hii ililenga kulinganisha athari za tofauti za mazingira ya ujifunzaji wa Kiswahili kati ya wanafunzi wenye ulemavu wa macho wa shule jumuishi ya Menengai na Joel Omino. Pembejeo wanayopata wanafunzi katika shule ya Menengai inayopatikana mjini Nakuru ambapo kuna wingi lugha ililinganishwa na ile ya wanafunzi wa shule ya Joel Omino inayopatikana katika vitongoji vya mji wa Kisumu ambako pembejeo kwa kiasi kikubwa inatokana na lugha moja kuu. Ulinganishaji wetu uliangazia stadi za lugha ambazo huathiriwa zaidi na tofauti za mazingira ya ujifunzaji katika juhudi za kuimarisha ujifunzaji wa Kiswahili kwa wanafunzi wenye ulemavu wa macho. Data ilikusanywa kwa kuhoji wanafunzi wote wenye ulemavu wa macho na baadhi ya walimu wa Kiswahili ilhali hojaji ilijazwa na wanafunzi wote wenye ulemavu wa macho na baadhi ya wanafunzi wasio na ulemavu wa macho. Data nyingine ilitokana na uchunzaji kupitia uhudhuriaji wa vipindi vya Kiswahili. Makala hii iliongozwa na mihimili miwili ya nadharia ya Usomi Tendaji ya Bruner (1966). Mhimili wa kwanza unadai kuwa kujifunza lazima kuanze na masuala yanayopatikana katika mazingira ya wanafunzi wanayojaribu kikamilifu kuunda maana nao mhimili wa pili unadai kuwa, watu huweza kujifunza zaidi wakati wanajifunza na watu wengine kuliko wakati wanajifunza peke yao. Sampuli maksudi ilitumiwa katika kukusanya data nyanjani. Matokeo ya utafiti yalibaini tofauti tano za mazingira kati ya shule ya Menengai na Joel Omino. Tunapendekeza serikali iwaajiri walimu zaidi walio na mafunzo ya kuwashughulikia wanafunzi wenye ulemavu ili kuboresha ujifunzaji wa Kiswahili. Vilevile, shule zinahitaji kushirikiana na mashirika yasiyo ya kiserikali ili kuboresha upatikanaji wa vifaa vya ujifunzaji. Pia, serikali inapaswa kuhakikisha kuwa wazazi wanapewa mafunzo kuhusu umuhimu wa elimu ya wanafunzi wenye ulemavu wa macho ili kuhakikisha kuwa wanaimarisha mazingira ya nyumbani yatakayowafaa wanafunzi wao katika somo la Kiswahili.
