Mawasiliano yameimarika sana katika karne ya ishirini na moja kufuatia uvumbuzi wa teknolojia ya mawasiliano. Namna uvumbuzi unavyoendelea kuwepo ndivyo visa vya uhalifu wa mitandaoni vinavyozidi kuongezeka. Wahalifu hutumia baruapepe, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook na njia nyinginezo za mitandaoni kuwadanganya watu, kuwaibia watu hela, kusambaza jumbe chafu za kiponografia, kuingilia data za wenyewe bila ruhusa na kusambaza jumbe za vitisho kwa watumiaji wa mitandao hii. Wahalifu hutumia ushawishi kutuma jumbe kama vile za ushindi wa pesa, ugawaji urithi, masuala ya kibiashara, jumbe za uhusiano wa kimapenzi na udukuzi wa pesa katika benki huku lengo kuu likiwa kuwaibia watu hela. Utafiti huu ulilenga kuchanganua mikakati ya ushawishi inayotumiwa na wahalifu hawa wa mitandaoni ili kufaulisha uovu wao. Nadharia ya Ubalagha ya Ushawishi iliyoasisiwa na Aristotle kisha kuendelezwa na wasomi wengine ilitumiwa pamoja na nadharia ya Mawasiliano ya Kiupatanishi ya Kitarakilishi iliyoasisiwa na Herring (2001). Sampuli ya utafiti huu iliteuliwa kimakusudi. Data ya utafiti ilikusanywa katika mitandao ya kijamii kwa njia ya upakuaji halafu kuhifadhiwa katika maandishi kisha ufafanuzi wake ulifanywa kwa njia ya maelezo. Mbinu ya uhakiki matini ilitumiwa katika uchanganuzi wa data. Utafiti huu ulibainisha kuwa wahalifu wa mitandao ya kijamii hutumia mikakati ya imani na dini, hisia, utoaji wa hoja zenye mantiki ili kuwashawishi watumiaji wa mitandao. Utafiti huu ni wa manufaa kwa watafiti wa lugha hasa katika nyanja ya Isimu kwa kuwapa ari ya kuchambua diskosi na kauli tofauti tofauti kama zinavyotumiwa katika mitandao ya kijamii.
